Therese of Divine Peace, a Roman Catholic parish where ALL are welcome, was born with the dawning of a new liturgical year on December 1, 2007, less than three weeks after her co-pastors had been ordained Roman Catholic womenpriests in an historic and well-chronicled celebration in this city’s Jewish synagogue, Central Reform Congregation.
With the gracious cooperation of the First Unitarian Church of St. Louis, the Therese community worships in Hope Chapel every Sunday at 5 o’clock p.m. We are a viable and growing Roman Catholic community that is neither condoned nor supported by the larger institution of the church we serve. We are a small, warm & welcoming, and widely diverse community of equals. We are young & old, male & female, professional & blue-collar, white & black, straight & gay or lesbian, married & single or divorced. We have celebrated baptisms, weddings, anointings, admission to candidacy and ordination rites together. We have open-door community meetings, share potluck suppers, and attend social activities together. We engage in community outreach and in ecumenical & interreligious cooperation, in concert with neighborhood religious & justice groups. We stand in solidarity with all who are persecuted because of their courage in speaking truth to power. We stand in solidarity with all who have experienced alienation or abuse at the hands of others, especially others in religious institutions. We seek to be sacrament for one another: to live justly, love tenderly, walk humbly with our God; and to be a voice for those who are not heard. We invite you to stand with us, in prayer & worship, holy work, and joy-filled play. |
Outreach We are committed to being involved in our community through works of justice and of charity. As a community, we work with Feed My People. We are also members of the Holy Ground Collaborative, working in concert with Central West End places of worship to improve the neighborhood community and community relations, as well as celebrating together in prayer and in play. As a Holy Ground member, we assist in the serving of hot lunches at Trinity Episcopal on Sunday afternoons. Additionally, our weekly Giving Program has purchased a new window for the Karen Catholic Worker House, and is currently collecting donations for this year's Christmas giving.
